1. What is your mission statement as an artist?
To make music to open your mind and elevate your soul. To use my gift to spread light and share my heart. To make you dance when you are not in the mood. To get this cd out before spring (lol)
2. How would you describe your sound and what makes it unique?
My sound… electronic-soul, hip trop, acoustically experimental music to open your mind. I feel like my music is unique because I am unique. Each day brings me to a new place with a new idea and a new approach.
3. Being a songwriter can be a discouraging journey. Describe a moment, where you said it’s all worth it?
The moment I felt it all made sense was during the Black Lily Festival in Phili last year. I was on stage with some of the other artists that performed that night (Imani Uzuri, Alice Smith, Alice Russell, Ursula Rucker, etc) watching Jill Scott blow it UP. It really took me back to whats real in music and encouraged me to get back on the path.
4. How would you compare and contrast the Minneapolis music scene with the New York City music scene?
New York’s music scene is powerful and polished but Minneapolis has some real creative types. I think its hard to compare because they are so different. What I love about NY’s scene (especially in BK) is that its black. Black rock, black hardcore, Black hip hop funk soul. Its everywhere. In the streets, on the train, in your face. Minneapolis its harder to find..but its there. What I love about Minneapolis though, is the fans. The support. People really believe in you there. They help to support your dream, making it reality.
5. What is the key to become a better songwriter?
Tell me when you find out. I struggle everyday finding the key.
