New Picture Book: “Hip Hop Speaks To Children”

Instead of giving small kids an xbox, ipod, or wii this Christmas, how about a picture book. But not just any picture book, a hip-hop picture book. I know you may have crindge at the title. There have been many products and books that have been using the name of hip-hop in vain to make a quick buck and only turned out to be well… corny. (ie Hip-Hop ABs) But this book does not fit in that category at all.
Edited by poet, Nikki Giovanni, “Hip Hop Speaks to Children: A Celebration of Poetry With a Beat,” features lyrics by Mos Def, Kanye West and Queen Latifah, as well as poems by Maya Angelou and Gwendolyn Brooks according to the New York Times. The book comes with a CD with recordings of the work read by the actual artist themselves.Nikki Giovanni’s vision was to reach back to the roots of hip-hop and also bridge the gap at the same time. She is using the book as a tool to get kids interested in poetry.
