Damn, for Real? by Amadeo

So my girl digs the Marley family. No sweat, I mean I love Bob and I Ziggy has some joints that I like. Who didn’t like Jamrock? Now the brother I wasn’t really to hip on was Kymani. No problem, B.E.T. has me covered (but they can’t stop me from scoring!). I caught the reality show Living the Life of Marley this weekend. Man was I dissapointed. Being someone who writes it’s not always a good thing to sum things up in just a few words…so I won’t. Mind you I’m not flipping through the channels looking for a “quality reality show”. I mean once I can figure out the roles on the Real World I stop watching (the Drunk, the Slut, the Fighter, the Gay one and the one likely to get kicked out). I mean unless the person is doing something amazing and spectacular the only real draw to a reality show is how much you like that person. With that frame of mind it seems like it should be hard to be let down. Well I was and I’ll tell you why. When I read the title I thought it would be about more than one of the brothers. Wrong. Then I thought, well it can’t really be bad. Wrong. I have to say, with his new album and from what I saw on this show…Kymani has taken a turn for the hood. Normally I would say maybe I just didn’t have a clue about dude, but from hearing songs from his last and new album back to back…I’m saying it. That didn’t bother me so much. What did start to bother me was when I realized that basically the show was trading on his fathers name and what I saw on the show wasn’t a good representation. If it had been a show featuring a couple of the brothers I could let it go. If It was called “Living the Life of Kymani Marley” that would be cool to. But I consider a few factors:
1) Why didn’t any of the other brothers get a show? Ziggy easily has been the most popular and has had the longest (most successful career). If we have to go by what’s now I’d say that Damien is the most popular currently. However, it’s not either of their show.
2) Not using Kymani’s name in the title (even if it was a network move) means the show essentially leans on Bob Marley (or if you want the fact that he’s his child).
3) I already felt a kinda way about the songs I heard, the video that he shot during and showed at the end of the show…it was ghetto fab. Someone tell me…is Kymani running a mob crew? Is he gangsta?
You know, I can’t say this was the most horrible thing I’ve ever seen. I can think of a lot of things that have been much worse. Additionally it seems funny to have no expectations and still be let down…I was though. Hey, catch it and judge for your self. I just found myself saying, “For real…damn”.

It’s unfortunate that it even went down like that. First off Ky-mani should stick to Reggae and not try to play off this dirty south persona like he’s doing in this wack video. He was better represented in Shottas and One Love two low-budget/Independent films out of Jamaica. If you haven’t seen them consider it. As far as you being disappointed well i mean B-E-T…enough said.

I haven’t seen it and never heard of this new show. I’m too busy watching the classy stuff: I Love New York and such. (smile)

yeah me and my roommate was watching it
and I was disappointed about them not showing the other brothers. Plus it just was a bore, it kept draggin and draggin. We clicked the channel and started watching “kimora in the fab lane”. The title was a set up.
