“A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.”
Groucho Marx (1890 - 1977)

So, there’s always some issue in the news for people to be concerned over…well most people.  I rarely see anything and think it’s going to be a big issue for me.  What I have begun to notice is how slow parents (the groups they belong to), politicians and the media are.  The more I check out things that are held up as “serious issues” the older I realize they are.  First of the list is anything on the internet.  Everytime they show something on the internet for parents to beware of it’s usually not even cool anymore.  Like earlier this year I saw a story about about “girlfights”…man that thing was old three years ago when I finally found out about it.  To date everytime I see any news story about something on the internet it’s either old or already being dealt with.  So we can skip over that already.   However, there are bigger issues.  Myisha wrote about the “Read a Book” controversey, but more recently I learned what it is to “Superman” a girl.

from Urban dictionary:

1. Superman
2017 up, 349 down
Superman; When you are mad at your girl for not having sex with you. So when she falls asleep you masturbate and cum on her back. After that, stick the bedsheet on to her back and when she wakes up it’s stuck to the cum and she has a cape like Superman!!!

I left in as much as a I did to illustrate that out of the top seven possibilities this is the most accepted one.  Let me know when some parents are on C.N.N. complaining about that….cause most of their kids probably know the dance.  As far as my thoughts go…if you complain cause your kids see “Read a Book” this song should be a problem too.  Then alot of people will say, “well the parents just don’t know”.  To quote my greatgrandmother: “Tough titty, but you still gotta suck it.”  I can find more on the internet about pop culture and slang than I can actual laws and solid information.  Matter of fact do a search for Santorum (former senator) and see what the #1 entry is….I’ll wait.  Interesting huh?  Back when I was a little scrapper parents would have had to get the word from a kid or an adult who found out from a kid.  Now you can google search this stuff.  But parents and adults are still slow.  Along with that and Lil’ Jon being able to say skeet one million times on the radio, I gotta wonder what people are really attacking.  Even after Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock brought it up, no one said anything.  On the other hand, we all remember the “Tip Drill” controversey.  Despite it being made for and played on B.E.T. Unkut, people complained more about it (initially) than the fact that there was a B.E.T. Unkut.  Let’s take this even beyond videos and booty shake.  For my 70’s and early 80’s babies.  Remember Pearl Jam?  In particular, remember the song Jeremy?  It came out in 1992 and people knew about it cause grunge was on the rise and Pearl Jam was one of the main representatives.  Well remember what happened in 1999?  Here’s a hint, the song Jeremy just about laid it out 7 years earlier.  Still stumped?  Let’s look at some lyrics then:

“Clearly I remember
Pickin’ on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
Oh, but we unleashed a lion
Gnashed his teeth
And bit the recess lady’s breast
How could I forget
He hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurtin
Oh, dropped wide open
Just like the day
Like the day I heard”

Columbine much?  The worse part is the song is based on two actual incidents that took place only in those cases the kids didn’t shoot any other students.  So, seven years before Columbine there was an award winning song and music video in rotation describing the type of build-up that would lead to a Columbine…the situation that no one saw coming.  I’ve thought about this alot in the last few years.  I’ve also gone back to other issues to look for corresponding music and media.  Young people selling drugs…too many songs to mention, but I’ll say “Loves Gonna Get’cha” and just about anything from N.W.A.   Child pregnancy, abuse, welfare and abandoned babies?  ”Brenda’s got a Baby” anyone? The whole state of the underclass?  “The Message” maybe?  The real problem I have today is the internet is the biggest dry snitch in history and it seems like people aren’t even using it.  You can even go to off-topic sections of video game websites and find out what they hell kids are doing.  Even with all of this in place, parents are more surprised now than ever.  Wake up people.   There should be no surprises.  Everything you need to know is right in front of you.  Use it before your kids lose it.   In a strange way all of this makes me think about the Stephen King book IT.  A terrible monster that feeds on children.  Adults (even when they glimpse it) just don’t believe and they never take action.  So the kids have to take things into their own hands.  I’m not sure if the power of a childs belief will get us through this one people.  Grown-ups may have to get involved in a proactive way.  When it can become a news story it’s already too late.

“Youth is not wasted on the young. The young know how truly dreadful youth can be. Their youth is wasted on everyone else, that’s the horror. The young have no authority, no respect. “
